Seamon Park all lit up for the holidays

A great place to stay for the holidays.  This year both Cafe Tamayo and the Inn at Tamayo will be open for the Holiday season.  The restaurant  will serve dinner straight through the winter on Friday and Saturday evenings.  The Inn will be open every evening.  What a great way to celebrate the holidays, with a reasonably priced room in a  Historic 1864 building in Saugerties NY,  a beautiful Hudson River town. The business district is historically land marked, great shops, a movie theatre in town, the lighthouse is an easy walk away.  Seamon Park is light up for the holidays.  Plus if you want to ski you are close to Windham and Hunter mountains.  Just 2 hours north of the city, 1 mile off the Thruway. and it feels like a different world.  Easy to get to, and a great way to spend the weekend.  After a wonderful dinner at Cafe Tamayo you only have to walk upstairs to your comfortable room.  E mail or call Rickie or James at 845-246-9371 for informations.

21 Years & Counting

21 Years and Counting

This week at Café Tamayo we celebrate our 21st anniversary.  We were thinking about the things that drew us to Saugerties, and about being a part of this community. The things that drew us here have not changed, beautiful architecture, a real village to live in with things like a home town shoe store, pharmacy, dry cleaner, hardware store, chocolate store, beautiful Seamon Park, and much more.  In the restaurant we have seen children become adults, dates turn into engagements, marriages, and families. We have kept in touch with many employees and watched their carriers grow and change. The village has also changed.  Luckily for us, all those things that drew us here remain, and the changes have been positive. The light house was renovated and opened, small word playground was built, the ice rink was built, the Kiersted House became a museum, and we are happy to be part of a group that brought the Saugerties farmers market to life.  We call all of these things, Saugerties growing “gracefully” and   becoming even a better place to live.  So in this our anniversary week, as well as a week for “Thanksgiving” we realize that Saugerties, our village, is one of the things that we are thankful for.     Rickie & James TamayoCafe Tamayo

Pumpkin Soup Recipe

November 1, 2008 by rickietamayo

Here is the pumpkin soup recipe that Jimmy cooked at the Farmers Market last weekend.  It was a good last market for the season, and the soup was wonderful a cool Fall Saturday.  We are looking forward for the first time this year to a winter market on Sundays, once a month.   Hope to see everyone at the restaurant, the Inn or the Farmers Market over the winter.curried-pumpkin-soup

Owners Message

Rickie and James Tamayo are founding members of the Saugerties Farmers Market, just completing its 7th year, but Cafe Tamayo has been open for over 20 years, serving Hudson Valley farm products when ever possible. We currently serve a menu that changes daily in an intimate 35 seat restaurant. This allows us to use the smaller local farmers that may not be prepared to supply a larger restaurant. The menu is designed as a 3 or 4 course prix fixe dinner, but most days you can also order ala carte. This is a small owner run restaurant where you will see Rickie in the dining room every evening and James at the stove. Special dietary requests are not a problem because your food is always made to order. Please let us know when you make your reservation and we will be happy to accommodate your needs. Look forward to seeing you soon.

Cool August at Saugerties LightHouse

August 29, 2008 by dadministrator

Testimonial

We recently came back from our visit to the Hudson Valley, including Saugerties Light House…Amazingly cool for August; the Saugerties Lighthouse actually doesn’t even have air conditioning.

What we mostly went for was to see the HITS Saugerties Summer Series, especially former olympians Todd Minikus, Margie Engle and Norman Dello Joi – plus Olympian McLain Ward (who got a Gold in the Beijing olympics for Team Jumping!). Fantastic event – recommend to all..

Also swung over to the Woodstock Festival grounds, to take a look at where all the action happened in ‘69 – pretty cool.

Great stay at the Saugerties Inn – Lodging at Cafe Tamayo; nice rooms, good location!
